Americans Need a Family Stimulus Plan
HealthNewsDigest (07/04/09) Nusbaum, Howard
American Resort Development Association (ARDA) President and CEO Howard Nusbaum writes that a separate stimulus plan is needed to help American families. Recent research shows that 45 percent of Americans say they do not get sufficient quality time with their families. A major reason for this is that vacations are often among the first cuts made from the household budget when the economy goes south. In response, ARDA has created the “Family Stimulus Plan.” Under this program, the association is providing tips on how to take time away to renew and rejuvenate with the family on its VacationBetter.org Web site. According to Nusbaum, the Family Stimulus Plan provides travelers with helpful suggestions on planning a successful family vacation, including such event-planning tips as selecting a location, ice-breaker games and ways to stay in touch with extended family year round. He comments, “Tough times are when people need to connect to their families even more, and it can be done very economically.” Nusbaum concludes that owning your vacation with a timeshare has proven to be a terrific way of guaranteeing that you won’t find excuses not to vacation. Recent ARDA research shows that timeshare properties are experiencing an 82 percent occupancy rate despite the tough economy.
